Jun 22, 2023

Meet our inspiring grant recipients who are making a difference in their communities through active citizenship, civic leadership, and cooperative principles.

At Riverton Community Housing, we are delighted to announce the recipients of this year's Riverton Community Housing Grant. These two individuals have demonstrated exceptional commitment to community involvement, active citizenship, civic leadership, and cooperative principles. Join us in congratulating Bianca G Costa of the Chateau Co-op and Medewe Pessang of the Franklin Avenue Co-op, our inspiring grant recipients who have truly made a difference in their communities.

Bianca G Costa, a board member at the Chateau Co-op, has been a dedicated advocate for promoting diversity and fostering strong community relationships. Through her active participation in community events, Bianca has worked tirelessly to bridge gaps and bring people together. Her unwavering commitment to the cooperative principles and her propensity towards civic leadership are highly commendable.

As an international graduate student in animal sciences, Bianca faces the unique challenges of balancing her academic pursuits with community involvement. The Riverton Community Housing Grant will provide her with the necessary support to focus on her education and invest in capacity courses related to sustainable living. With a strong desire to make a positive environmental impact, Bianca plans to involve the Chateau Co-op in recycling awareness and proper disposal of compostable waste. Her efforts will not only benefit the cooperative but also contribute to the overall sustainability of the community.

The second grant recipient, Medewe Pessang, serves as the Board President and an active volunteer at the Franklin Avenue Co-op. Medewe's dedication to civic leadership is exemplified through their involvement in the Franklin's youth 4-H program. By focusing on gardening, nutrition, and environmental education, Medewe has empowered the youth of her community to develop essential skills and a deeper understanding of sustainable living practices.

As a Communication Studies major, Medewe's passion lies in teaching and empowering others through effective communication. The Riverton Community Housing Grant will provide her with valuable opportunities to further their education and pursue her goals in the field of communication. Medewe's commitment to community development and her drive to make a positive impact will undoubtedly inspire and benefit the members of the Franklin Avenue Co-op.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Bianca G Costa and Medewe Pessang, our outstanding grant recipients. Their dedication, leadership, and community-oriented approach are truly remarkable. As they continue to pursue their academic and personal goals, we have no doubt that they will contribute significantly to the cooperative movement and the betterment of their communities.

We would also like to express our gratitude to all the applicants who participated in the Riverton Community Housing Grant. Your passion for community involvement and cooperative principles is truly inspiring. Together, let us continue to build cooperative communities that thrive on active citizenship, civic leadership, and a shared commitment to the greater good.
